Wendy In Motion

Wendy In Motion

Robin is New Mexico carving the curves of the lovely 152 and treacherous 52/59. Tim bought a tidy really expensive garage for his motorcycles that came with a house. Travis is punk rockin' the virtual realm (but made time for an oil change).

Our interview is with the one and only Wendy Naessens, better known as "Wendy In Motion". Her early beginnings in the Chicago vintage motorcycle scene have expanded greatly, earning her multiple titles and responsibilities within the BMW training market. It's been a while since we've crossed paths, so we took the opportunity to chat her up.

Listener questions delve into the awkward platform that is basecamp route planning software. Tim swears by it. Robin says it's dated. Travis ... doesn't care. Fortunately, the discussion finds its own relevant conclusions.

Kelly Howard

We all got Travis out for a big birthday ride in the Wisco twisties. Tim is dealing with less-than-smooth clutch behavior on his BMW scooter. Robin is dissatisfied with his carbon fiber purchase.

Our interview this round is with Kelly Howard! Kelly is a long time enthusiast who coaches riders of all experience levels from novice to track junky. He spent a weekend chasing Robin around Texas hill country and of course, shenanigans ensued.

One listener, a new rider, asked how they might go about finding people to ride with. Additionally, they're on the hunt for some solid winter reading to keep their mind on the handlebars. We have plenty to say on this matter.

Monty Hall

Monty Hall

Now and then, you gotta let the format go. In this episode, our usual outline is in the fire pit around which Tim, Travis and Robin have pulled up their chairs. The conversation can point in any direction these days, the results often a luck of the draw.

Tim has had it with his Husqvarna Svartpilen, plainly stating that it served its purpose. Travis has a few thoughts on prospective bikes as well. Robin gets the lead out about his Beemer until low and behold, we've got ourselves an episode!

The Monty Hall paradox, also known as the "Monty Hall Problem", is a two-chance probability brain teaser. Given three (bike) choices, you reveal a first prospect. Whoever controls the options then unveils possibility number two before asking if you'd like to select a still-hidden third.

Jon DelVecchio

Jon DelVecchio

Jeff Alford of Total Rider (Texas) suggested we should come up with a better intro, so Tim, Robin and Travis did just that. Travis talks V-Strom XT, Robin breaks a tire bead and Tim wears vinyl pants. If you get creative, all are universally interchangeable.

Jon DelVecchio is our interview this round and we sure are lucky to have him! Jon is the author of Cornering Confidence: The Formula for 100% Control In Curves. His book is an excellent read, providing motorcycle riders with a simple progression of skills to elevate their riding in a short period of time.

The guys also field questions about Northern Tool trailers, rear sprocket alignment and chain contact points. If you're not into listening, well ... that specific trailer is no more, you could use a laser tool and "yes". Clear as mud, right?

Zero's SR/S

Zero's SR/S

All three hosts get a little giddy when it comes to electric motorcycles. It's probably the torque math goin' to our heads. Zero's latest entry into the market is no exception where raised eyebrows and grins are concerned.

Two new tours have been added to the group travel event list. For the modest, entry-level enthusiast, our modified Lake Michigan Circle Tour (LMCT) is a "cruise with moments of technicality". Top tier track junkies may prefer our (also modified) "Ohio Windy 9" tour, which is chock full of switchbacks and sweepers.

Speaking of group rides, resident author Brian Wringer nailed it with his "10 Commandments To Lead An Insanely Fun ST Motorcycle Ride". Thus, it's our read-through article of the month, broken up equally between the voices of Tim, Travis and Robin. Enjoy.

Travis and his wife are now the proud parents of two beautiful baby boys. You heard it before ... twins! Congrats to the happy couple!

Tim bought a new refrigerator. Calm down. Calm, I say! He's also trying to figure out his luggage rig for our upcoming "Trip Sevens" tour.

Robin is in Texas preparing to begin work as an MSF coach for Total Rider. He's also working to better the "777" tour maps. Hence this episode.

Travis is expecting. Well, that is to say his wife is expecting. Which is weird considering that this episode was produced and uploaded after his kid was ... wait (save that for the next episode).

Tim has the tiny bike bug again and with that, he's sought out a number of interesting products. Each gets their full thirty seconds of attention before another host interrupts. Sighs galore.

Robin is Robin. He's in Texas. Texas is Texas.

Kind of Bluish

Kind of Bluish

Travis is almost finished painting a (totalled) Ninja ER6-N. Even after the long prep, it's a three-part process. One layer primer meets a next layer of blue meets a third layer that's metal flake.

Speaking of maintenance, listener Dominik is looking to perfect is mobile tool collection. Fortunately Tim's latest bit of kit has him covered. Well, that and a few typical DIY go-tos.

Also in this episode, MSTA (Motorcycle Sport Touring Association) president Patrick Mogevaro wrote us a great article. Kentucky's "Hillbilly Triangle" is a most excellent route. Robin reads it turn by turn and feature by feature.

The "777" Tour

T.R.O. Aug 21, 2019 Comments

The "777" Tour

This marks the sixth iteration of our flagship "Trip Sevens" tour. The name comes from a simple theme: seven riders, seven states, seven days. Robin and Travis swapped lead/sweep roles throughout.

There were dark storms, deep woods twisties, mountain top views and a lot of friendly bonding. Also, there were betterings and caveats that only come with motorcycle travel. We look forward to expanding our knowledge along the way every time.

Everyone learned new things about themselves. Each individual rider brought something that the tour couldn't have gone without. What's definitely a motorcycle vacation is also a team building experience, for sure.

Arkansas Ozarks

Arkansas Ozarks

When Tim Clarke plans an ADV tour, he means business. When he plans a week+ long tour, he means businesser. In the case of this Arkansas motorcycle getaway, there's more to keep in mind.

TimCC and his lovely gal make a multi-campground trek in their new, custom-built teardrop camper. Tim's Africa Twin, winched into the back of their Toyota pickup, plays clydesdale to a variety of destinations. Knocking down a Jeep road on day one, the remainder is a relaxed holiday.

Blooming dogwoods, flooded train routes and pleasantly excited locals are key to Arkansas character. With that, no amount of rain can douse what their most rural roads have to offer. The barbecue doesn't hurt, either.
